Every year since 2014, my dad & I have attended the USGP in Austin (it helps that its only 3 hours away). However, every time we watch the Austrian GP, he tells me how that would be his #1 track to visit because, well, look at it. So this year I decided to pull the trigger and surprise him with tickets to the Austrian GP in July!

As of right now we’re planning on staying a week starting in Stuttgart, where we’ll visit the Mercedes & Porsche museums, then down to Munich and then to Spielberg. Does anyone here who’s attended, have any travel tips/places to check out for the Austrian GP, or Germany in general?

I doubt you can hear much from the hills.

Jealous! That sounds awesome.

My sis and her husband are going to Phillips Island for MotoGP so I have no travel buddies for Austin this year.

Stuttgart is only 3.5 hours from The Ring. Clearly that should be at least considered...

No tips, but I’ll be doing the Hungarian GP this year which is at the end of the July. Hope we get good races!

I’ll hit the USGP again this year, but actually be able to enjoy the race instead of worrying about stuff & things. I’m looking forward to being a fan again :)

If you wander off the highway the Alps are a really nice place to drive. Drive as many mountain passes as you can. The roads are very fun and the sights are breathtaking. We went there, as an oppomeet, for a long weekend last year.

Do note that Austrian highways (and just the highways) are like one major toll road, so you’ll need to either buy a toll sticker (available a gas stations, including in Germany near the Austrian border) in advance or never drive on the Austrian highways. The toll sticker isn’t that expensive but it’s easily forgotten.
